In typing this I now realise that it’s been ten years since I designed and built a small show garden at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
I had the privilege of studying Professional garden design on a course based both at Kingston Maurward Agricultural College and the Arts University Bournemouth. It was a fantastic course and I learnt skills that I have been able to develop alongside my architectural education and career.
The garden I built at Hampton Court was a light-hearted interpretation of the Rococo period. It didn’t reflect my personal taste in design but was an endeavor to do something fun and in contrast to the other less stylistic entries. I learnt so much and was indebted to the help of my tutors, fellow students and family who gave up their time for the planning, two week build and week long show.
I also achieved a bronze medal which I will treasure forever.
