This terraced garden has to work hard. It’s small. It’s terraced and there’s a beautiful, giant holm oak with an equally giant root protection area. In the past the property has suffered from flooding. It’s on a well known street close to sandbanks where there is an underground watercourse running under the house.

The first challenge was to resolve the drainage. A new soakaway was created with a pump that discharges to foul if the water levels become too high. Renga design was able to work with the landscaper to gain the relevant permissions for the arrangement adn now the lower level of the house should be protected from future storm events.
A selection of early concept designs for this terraced garden were presented. The brief was to create a retreat from the popular local beach which becomes crowded during the hwight of the summer that presents a relaxing, holiday vibe. The clients were unsure as to whether a small plunge pool should be included or not so options wiht adn thuth the pool were modelled for consideration. Below are some early concept images.

Relaxed garden retreat with a holiday vibe
A design was settled on that included a small pool with jets and bench. Materials included a hardwood deck, western red cedar fencing and limestone terraces with millboard cladding to the terrace faces.
The garden is currently in construction and should be completed in 2024.
