I was hoping this would be an easy win. I’ve seen a large dilapidated colonial style building many times from the Chao Phraya express boat and after a google discovered it’s a dilapidated customs house. Many bloggers have written enthusiastically about this as an easy urbexing spot.
After a convivial breakfast at “Kai” and a pleasant book sale at the Neilson Hayes Library, where I managed to only buy 4 books, I wandered off to find my quarry. Unfortunately access to the building and even it’s curtilage was brusquely denied by the security guard.
I hid round the corner and waited to see if the Thai photographer who had been trailing me for the last couple of blocks got the same treatment and he did so I took a diversion through the windy back alley behind the object of my photographic desires. Not at all unpleasant as it was home to a vibrant Muslim community and there were some lovely old houses.
I managed to get a picture from the long-tail boat I caught back to Saphan Taksin and surmised that despite my journey not going to plan it had been really a wonderful afternoon after all.
