I was sent a link to a video by famous Danish architect Bjarke Ingles today where he suggested that Architecture should embrace the concept of Minecraft and become “Worldcraft” where we are enabled to turn surreal dreams into inhabitable space. As he sketched across a giant piece of paper with a chunky marker lucidly describing the concepts behind many of his major works I was, for a moment swept along with his enthusiasm.
It was this enthusiasm and potential to effect positive change that made me want to train as an architect.
What’s holds back? or what do we perceive is holding us back from making our sketches, dreams and enthusiasms a reality? How can we go about removing these obstacles? Who has the courage and vision to do so? How can we nourish courage and enthusiasm?
It’s very easy to let our enthusiasm and passion be dulled but, like this small girl in her sarong ‘cape’ at the Shwedagon Pagoda, I intend to dream a little more in the hope that it gives me the inspiration to combat feelings of futility and cynicism.
