Japan: a sneaky peak
After a period of intense anticipation I recently returned to the architectural Mecca that is Japan after ten years and it certainly did not disappoint in any way. I have some specific building related items I’d like to share but in the meantime if you’d like to sample a flavour of my trip you can find a full set of images here.

Lumion: Still Images
This week I’ve found some time to experiment with architectural software Lumion. It’s a visualisation program that can be used for producing still images and animations. I used Sketchup for the base model and experimented with an existing model then I went on Pinterest and selected and image to recreate. I chose this elegant house by Dimitrii Petrov as the image looked a little cgi-like in the first place- but it’s a photo, I promise.
I’ve been very impressed by the software. It didn’t work well on parallels on my mac so I had to move onto the PC. It’s super easy to use , with some help from you-tube including this great tutorial and the rendering time is lightning fast so once the model has been built creating the visuals is a very quick process.
Above is my attempt at re-creating the image and not including sketchup time (which was about 3hrs) adding materials, adjusting lighting and exporting images took no more than 45 minutes! I’m quite pleased with the outcome although the angle isn’t quite right. I modelled the house without floor plans so it’s a rough approximation. I’m really looking forward to moving onto the animation side of the software this week.
