Space savers

We all want our spaces to work harder. When designing your new home or remodelling your existing home multi-functional family spaces are a key priority and built-in seating is my go-to tool for maximising space.

Built in seating creates a really cosy dining space and is conducive for feeling comfy when doing homework or browsing a cookbook or simply coffee with friends. Having a mix of built-in and loose seating means that less mobile guests can be seated as easily as the mini people.

Fixed seating can double up as storage, be symtiously upholstered or be designed with simple legs that let the flor finsih run underneath. Here are some of my favourites from Pinterest. A search for ‘Banquette seating’ brings up soem good results form our friends over the pond.

This fixed seating adjoins the kitchen island which is a sociable soultion for the chef.
This is a compact solution that is just so much more inviting than a regular table
This arrangement uses square bistro tables which are easily adapted for smaller and larger groups
This more traditional style incorporates storage- can you see that handle on the end?
